Our Hebraic Roots

Our understanding of scripture is based on the principle that God is the same - yesterday, today and forever. It therefore is true that the Covenant cut with Abraham became the basis for our faith. The prophets tell us in Jeremiah 31:31 that the New Covenant will be for the House of Israel and the House of Judah.

Paul tells us in Romans that the Israelites are the Natural Olive tree, that we (previously non-believers) are the Wild Olive tree, and that we have been grafted into the natural olive. (Romans 9 - 11)

It is therefore imperative that we have established what these roots are.

Importance for today

MenorahMuch of the Church's teachings today are based on Replacement Theology, creating the belief that the New Covenant is a Church of faith and grace and that the Old Covenant is Israel and Law - a list of do's and don'ts.

The material we produce therefore has a two-fold purpose:

  • to dispel this myth
  • to teach and explain that Yeshua's teachings and principles are based on the Old Testament - the Torah - and that these "Commandments" are still relevant today

Yeshua teaches us that those who want to be great in the Kingdom of God must TEACH AND DO His Commandments.

Return to our roots

Olive TreePsalm 23:3 has been commonly translated as "paths of righteousness" - the Hebrew word used here is "A'gol" . This should more clearly be translated as To make a cycle and to wear a rut into the ground so that it comes naturally.

In Isaiah 46: 10, the prophet declares: "Out of the beginning, the end. Out of ancient times, they are not yet done."

We see clearly that we must go back to the beginning, to the Old Testament, to the foundational principles of God. Our material attempts to search for God's Cycle of Righteousness, i.e. His appointed times - His Feasts, His Principle of family, home, legacy and purposes for our lives.

Gen 1:11 tells us that "seed" is used to produce all living things, that like will produce like, and that every fruit contains the "seed". As we return to our Hebraic roots we are demonstrating to the world that our "seed" is from the Kingdom of God - through our faith in Yeshua, the Messiah.

Shofar - Instrument of God

ShofarThere are two types of trumpets used in the Bible, namely the silver trumpet and the ram’s horn (shofar). Shofar is a Hebrew word that comes from the root word meaning “to glisten”, “fair”, “beauty”. The word “shofar”, however, through tradition, came to mean almost solely “ram’s horn”.

To sound the ram’s horn came from the root word “Teruah” which, in Hebrew, means acclamation of joy, clamor, rejoicing, high joyful sound, loud noise, wild shout, a battle cry, to announce forcefully or loudly.

The shofar is usually made from the horn of a male sheep (ram), yet it can be made from the horn of the wild goat, any antelope, the African Kudu, but never from the horn of a steer or a cow as that would be reminiscent of the golden calf made by the Israelites in the desert.

The sounding of the Shofar

  • is a reminder of the time when God called Moses to Mount Sinai to receive the Torah;
  • symbolizes freedom and liberty; and
  • is a sound that is guaranteed to confuse and chase satan away!

We distribute Shofars on behalf of Jacobus & Marinda du Preez in the Western Cape. Both Kudu and Rams horns are available at very reasonable prices.
